REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGES

A non-Muslim Malaysian citizen who has contracted a marriage in Ireland MUST register the marriage with this office within six (6) months from the date of marriage. This is a legal requirement under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 of Malaysia and it is an offence if you fail to do so within the prescribed time. A penalty charge will be imposed for late registration depending on how late the registration takes place. Late registration penalty charges after 6 months will be, first year Euro 25 and for every subsequent year euro 15 .

The procedure requires both husband and wife to appear personally at this office and produce the following documents:

  1. Passports of the couple
  2. Malaysian IC and GNIB/IRP
  3. Birth certificates of the couple 
  4. Marriage Certificate issued by the Irish Local Authority and authenticated by The Department of Foreign Affair and Trade of Ireland.
  5. One (1) passport size photograph of both persons
  6. Application Form : Borang KC06 (The form will be provided by the Embassy) 
  7. Registration fee (Please bring the exact amount in cash/bank transfer)  
 
Documents that are not issued by the Irish or Malaysian government will need to be verified (Certified True Copy) first by the Embassy of their respective country.

Registration will be processed by the Embassy and two copies of the Malaysian Marriage Certificate will be issued to the couple.

Muslim marriages can only be registered at the Jabatan Agama in the state where you are registered in Malaysia.

MALAYSIAN MUSLIM INTENDING TO GET MARRIED IN IRELAND
  • The Embassy is not authorised to issue certificate of matrimony to Malaysian Muslims intending to contact marriage in Ireland; 
  • Malaysian Muslims are required to undergo Muslim marriage according to Islamic rites under the Syariah Law;
  • The Muslim wedding couple is requested to contact the Islamic Cultural Centre, Dublin (I.C.C, Dublin);
  • According to I.C.C, the applicant has to complete the Aqad Niqah form (Borang Permohonan Nikah) and also to prepare the following documents;
    1. A copy of passport ( both bride and bridegroom);
    2. Consent letter from parents of both bride and groom;
    3. A copy of passport / identification card of parents of the bride;
    4. A copy of passport of two witnesses for the aqad nikah ceremony ;
    5. Conversion to Islam Certificate for bride/ groom, if applicable;
    6. Divorce Certificate, if applicable.
  • Applicants to take note that all documents issued by the Malaysian authorities must be endorsed by the Commissioner of Oath in Malaysia and to be certified by the Consular Officer, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Malaysia. The address of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia is as follows:

  3. Aqad Niqah certificate issued by a recognized Mosque or Islamic Organization
